Two years in a row now, Joe Bucher has bagged a Pope & Young class whitetail buck during the Halloween Holiday. On the afternoon/evening of October 30th, Joe was on his first hunt on a new property in Buffalo County when he spotted a ridge top funnel loaded with leg sized rubs on poplar trees. Within 1/2 hour of setting up his treestand, a doe appeared being chased by a monster buck with a super wide rack.
Bucher watched intently, while cameraman Brach Pulver filmed the action over Joe's shoulder. The monster buck grunted constantly and followed this doe everywhere, but never close enough for a shot. Finally, when it appeared as if he wouldn't get a shot, the doe lead the buck within 40 yards before exiting over the ridge top down towards a lower corn field. The buck stopped momentarily to rub on another big poplar tree at about 40 yards.
Joe quickly drew back his Hoyt Havoctec and launched a NAP Spitfire broadhead perfectly on target (41 yards). A double-lung hit.
Specs on the Halloween Hoss: 248 pounds, 23 inch inside spread. 10 pointer. Rough score at 147. Shot at 41 yards with a Hoyt Havoctec and a NAP Spit fire broadhead.
